There's some flex in the part and you want to be gentle with it, but what you're doing is slightly extending the blade distance to the 'catch' of the clasp. It may take one or two bends to get it to snap tight, but it will work.
I found when I went to close the bracelet the clasp required a lot of pressure for the clip to engage. It wasn't a big issue until I found that if the micro-adjust was any smaller than the farthest point the clasp wouldn't close at all.If the clasp on your watch isn't staying closed, there may be a quick fix that you can do on your own.
