Released in 1988, the Rolex Submariner No-Date 2-liners 14060 with 3000 Cal. is the direct successor to the long-lived ref. 5513 (first launched in 1962). Featuring a glossy black lacquered dial, a sapphire crystal and a Triplock crown, the watch was adorned with a “Fat Four” black aluminum insert, a 93150 Oyster Bracelet with 501B end link . Wearing the 14060 after 3 months. I recently bought my grail and it’s been on my wrist non stop, a 126710 BLRO and yes I paid grey prices which were fortunately less than current trends but I digress, and just switched out to my classic 14060M.124060 new from AD is the wisest financial play, 14060/M (two liner preferred) is the better Sub IMO. Lug holes for the win. Really comes down to this small but rewarding detail.

Has anyone come across a picture directly comparing the 14060 against the new 124060? Better still, does anyone have both and able take a comparison shot?

When Rolex first introduced the ref. 14060 in 1990 after retiring the 5513, it came equipped with the Caliber 3000 automatic movement. Then in 1999, Rolex furnished the no date Submariner with the Caliber 3130 automatic movement, thus the 14060M was born where "M" stands for "modified." Is it true both watches had equal production runs, which in the life of a Rolex model were actually fairly short? It seems the 4 Liner commands a higher market value, even though the 2 Liner seems to be the more popular with WIS collectors.

The most striking difference is the 16610 offers the date feature (with cyclops); 14060 does not. To accomodate the date, the 16610 has a slightly larger and neglibibly thicker case. Also, 14060 has lug holes, whereas after a certain MY (which I do not recall) the 16610 no longer offered them. I have been educating myself recently on the Sub No-Date and have got a lot of recommendations for the 14060M. However, I see that there are two versions of the 14060M, one with the classic 2 lines of text and one with the more modern 4 lines of text. I’m an Omega guy, but have an interest in a future purchase of a Rolex Submariner too. As I’ve looked into information related to the Submariner, I’m narrowing my focus to the 14060 and 14060M given the pre-1990 versions have risen to values higher than I want to spend. Welcome to Wrist Game or Crying Shame, the weekly serial that allows you to govern your own state of wrist wear affairs. Today’s subject is the Rolex Submariner 14060, a popular aspirational steel dive watch. We’ll see what you think in a bit.
