The label on a Chanel couture jacket says "CHANEL"--NOTHING else, no logo. If there is a logo, it is Boutique which is ready-to-wear. These suits are beautifully made, but they are not couture. Chanel Creations and Chanel Boutique are rtw (ready-to-wear) labels.
The Navy trim is puckering the fabric all over which makes me think it was either hastily sewn on or the jacket has been machine washed and shrunk around it. The way it is curved round the corners rather than folding them in at right angles, and just tucked and tacked at the ends also makes me think this was added later - possibly for costume . It feels very secure, but I'm not sure what else to check. It contains no other labels. The green stitching bordering the label is a slightly lighter representation of the original color of the jacket. My research indicated that it may have been made during the early 80's or 90's.

The jacket with 3 pockets is unusual; I don't remember seeing an odd number of pockets before. I have a suit in a similar fabric. The fur trimmed coat is similar to a Davidow copy I have. Wish you were near to compare the construction.
But, if your suit is indeed a Chanel Boutique suit, then the answer to your question is "yes". It is genuine Chanel (Boutique) and could be sold as such. Any Chanel, from Haute Couture to Boutique to other RTW labels, are still considered to be Chanel. Also, the tag says "Made In France" so the suit would not have been made in Garfinkle's. I'm wondering if that is a labrys (double axe) on a shield with a crown pictured on the label? It looks like a crest to me. I assume you are looking for information about the maker. If you are also looking for a date on the suit, is it a nylon or metal zipper in the dress? I could think the outfit dates from anytime between the 1960s and the 1980s.
Oct 13, 2011. #14. check the backs of the buttons and see if there's a chanel stamp or mark on them. not foolproof, as i've had authentic chanels with buttons that weren't stamped on the backs, but if it's there, chances are it's authentic. the lack of fiber/size/season tag is usual. ever since chanel started putting those honking big fiber/etc .
